NDRRMC: 101 classes suspended due to Florita
At least 101 classes were suspended in several regions in Northern Luzon due to the onslaught of Tropical Storm Florita, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Monday.
In its 5 p.m. situational report, the NDRRMC said the affected classes were in Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon due to the heavy rains brought about by the tropical cyclone.
Of the figure, 67 classes from preschool to secondary education were canceled in CAR, 31 in Cagayan Valley, and three in Central Luzon.
One road in CAR was reported not passable, the NDRRMC report said.
State weather bureau PAGASA said 12 areas are now under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 2 as of 8 p.m. Monday .
Meanwhile, moderate to heavy rains are expected over Ilocos Region, CAR, and Cagayan today while light to moderate with at times heavy rains will prevail over Central Luzon, Batanes, Isabela, Occidental Mindoro, Oriental Mindoro, Romblon, Marinduque, Metro Manila, and the rest of CALABARZON and Bicol Region.
Heavy to intense with at times torrential rains, meanwhile, are forecasted over Batanes, Cagayan, Isabela, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos Region on Tuesday due to the prevailing Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
PAGASA warned the public against widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides, especially in low-lying areas.
“Under these conditions, scattered to widespread flooding and rain-induced landslides are expected especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps, and in localities with significant antecedent rainfall,” PAGASA said.—LDF, GMA News
