Philippines' active COVID-19 cases up to 23,703 after six-day drop


The Philippines' active COVID-19 cases climbed to 23,703 on Friday following six consecutive days of decreasing numbers, the Department of Health (DOH) said.

The latest figure was 1,444 more than the 22,259 active tally logged on Thursday.

New cases reported totaled to 2,452, which pushed the country's tally to 3,886,395.

The DOH said the National Capital Region (NCR) topped the regions with most cases in the recent two weeks with 10,183, followed by Calabarzon with 4,887, Central Luzon with 3,370, Western Visayas with 1,694, and Davao Region with 1,446.

The number of individuals who recovered from the illness on Friday was at 948, the lowest figure in 49 days or since July 15's 742 new recoveries.

Total recoveries now stands at 3,800,782.   

The DOH said at least 46 new fatalities were reported bringing the country’s death toll to 61,910.  This is the 11th straight day of at least 40 new deaths.

At least 8,049 beds were occupied, while 20,924 were vacant as the bed occupancy in the country stood at 27.8% as of Wednesday, Aug. 31.

A total of 19,286 individuals were tested, while 327 testing labs submitted data as of September 1, Thursday.—LDF, GMA News
