Customs reinstates execs tagged in alleged sugar smuggling in Subic

The six officials of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) who were relieved over the alleged smuggling of sugar in the Port of Subic have been reinstated.

According to a report on “24 Oras”, an investigation showed the documents of the tons of imported sugar found at the port were indeed legitimate.

It can be recalled the officials were “relocated” to the Office of the Commissioner while the BOC was probing the 7,000 metric tons of suspected smuggled sugar from Thailand that gained entry into the country through an alleged recycled permit from the Sugar Regulatory Administration.

Acting BOC Commissioner Yogi Ruiz said the investigation results found the import documents were not recycled and that the shipment underwent the proper process.

No negligence was also found on the part of the customs officials.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA News
