2,230 new COVID-19 cases logged; active tally at 25,684
The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 2,230 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 3,906,269.
Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases slightly decreased to 25,684 from 26,074 on Saturday. This is the 15th straight day with fewer than 30,000 active infections.
The number of recoveries climbed to 3,818,281 while the death toll rose by 16 to 62,304.
According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 9,182 followed by Calabarzon with 3,854 and Central Luzon with 2,385.
The Health Department said at least 16,835 individuals were tested, while 316 testing labs submitted data on September 10.
It said that the bed occupancy in the country was 26.7%, with 7,669 beds occupied, while 21,093 were vacant.
Earlier in the day, OCTA Research group said a slow uptick in COVID-19 infections was observed in the National Capital Region (NCR), as indicated in the increases in the reproduction number and positivity rate.
In a tweet, OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said that NCR’s seven-day COVID-19 positivity rate went up from 12.1% on September 2, to 13.3% on September 9.
NCR’s reproduction number or the number of people infected by one case, also climbed from 0.93 on August 31 to 1.11 on September 7.
“The reproduction number has increased to greater than 1, which means infections are increasing,” David said. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
