PNP chief Azurin: No need to scare criminals
Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. on Monday said the organization does not need to scare criminals.
At a press conference, Azurin said the PNP values life and its position is in line with the guidance of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to ensure the safety of the public.
“Sinasabi natin na we value the preservation of life and that hindi natin kailangan pagtatakutin ang mga kriminal because very clear naman po ang guidance ng ating mahal na Presidente to make this country a safe place whether they are inside or outside of their homes,” he said.
(We are saying we value the preservation of life and we do not need to scare criminals because our President’s guidance was very clear, to make this country a safe place for people whether inside or outside their homes.)
If a crime happens, Azurin said the PNP will conduct an investigation, file a case, and jail the perpetrators.
Senator Ronald dela Rosa, a former PNP chief who heads the Senate committee on public order and dangerous drugs, earlier said criminals no longer fear cops and have become more daring in committing crimes. He made the statement following recent reports on kidnapping incidents.
“The police should terrorize the criminals and not the other way around,” he said.
Dela Rosa also called out the PNP for its supposed lack of “sourness” and “arrive” in its operations. Azurin responded by saying that time will tell what kind of leader the country needs.
“‘Yung pong sinsabi po na kulang sa asim, kula sa arrive, sinasabi ko nga po na panahon po ang nagsasabi kung anong leader ang kailangan ng bansang ito,” Azurin said.
(On the remarks that the PNP is lacking in sourness or arrive, I can only say that time will determine what kind of leader this country needs.)
According to Azurin, the PNP will continue with its strategy in going after criminals. — RSJ, GMA News
