LTFRB calls on RORO buses to suspend trips amid danger from Karding

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Sunday called on all roll-on roll-off (RORO) public utility buses to suspend their trips as Super Typhoon Karding (international name: Noru) continues to intensify.

The LTFRB's "advice" was given due to Super Typhoon Karding's impact on ports across the country.

The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) earlier on Sunday said the following ports have been affected by inclement weather:
  •    North Harbor
  •    South Harbor
  •    Batangas Port
  •    PMO Mindoro
  •    PMO Marinduque/Quezon
  •    PMO Masbate
  •    PMO Bicol
  •    Ozamiz (Manila-bound)
  •    Port of Dumaguete
  •    Port of Zamboanga Del Norte

“Bus operators are instructed to attend to the needs of their passengers, especially those who are already stranded in the ports,” the LTFRB said.

“Passengers are also advised not to attempt to travel if the weather conditions [are] still bad,” it added.

The state weather bureau has placed at least five areas under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 5 as of Sunday afternoon, as Karding maintained its strength.

Several other areas in Luzon were also placed under other TCWS levels, with Karding expected to make landfall in the northern portions of Quezon or the southern portion of Aurora on Sunday night.

Classes in several areas on Monday, September 26, have already been canceled, along with several flights. — DVM, GMA News
