President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Monday conducted an aerial inspection of the areas affected by Typhoon Karding.
His inspection will cover the provinces of Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Tarlac, Palace said.
Prior to his inspection, Marcos had a briefing with other government officials to assess the situation in areas hit by Karding.
"Now we are going to fly and to see... I wanted to see what the level of the water is. Tingnan natin (Let's see), how far we can go. Iba 'yung nakikita mo eh (It's different when you're seeing it). I will not land in any place," Marcos told reporters.
Marcos said the Department of Social Welfare and Development is ready to provide assistance to affected residents, including food and water.
"The DSWD is also prepared to provide AICS (Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations) for them. They need assistance... the whole range of assistance is prepared, is ready to go," Marcos said.
"But right now, having cash is really not useful for them. So, unahin natin 'yung immediate needs nila (let's prioritize their immediate needs). And when the time comes magagamit na nila 'yung AICS, bibigay natin sa kanila (when the time comes they can use the AICS, let's give it to them.)," he added.
The AICS is one of DSWD's programs under its Protective Services Program, which aims to provide financial and material assistance, psychosocial support, and referral services to indigents or in crisis individuals and their families, as assessed by the social workers.
PAGASA said Karding's present movement is west northwestward at 30 km/h. It has strong to typhoon-force winds extending outwards up to 270 kilometers from the center. — RSJ, GMA News
