Marcos wants regional airports to be fully utilized
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Wednesday that airports located in other regions should be fully utilized.
"Habang hindi pa natin naaayos ang airport sa Maynila, habang hindi pa naitatayo ang airport sa Bulacan, 'yung airport sa Sangley, ito 'yung mga proposal ngayon eh. Kailangan natin buksan ang mga airport sa regional," Marcos said in his speech during the grand opening of the new terminal building of the Clark International Airport in Mabalacat City, Pampanga.
(As we are still fixing the airport in Manila and while the airports in Bulacan and Sangley are not yet constructed, we need to open the regional airports.)
Marcos said some flights should no longer pass through Manila and that these should go direct to provinces.
"Huwag nating pinipilit lahat na kailangan dumaan ng Maynila. So, direct na sa Bohol, direct na sa Cebu, marami na talagang direct. Direct sa CDO, direct sa Davao na mayroon na rin. Ganon, para di na kailangang dumaan ng Maynila. Kaya't itong ganitong klaseng project is exactly on point when it comes to the plans that we have," he added.
(Let's not force flights to still pass through Manila. They should go direct to Bohol, to Cebu, to CDO, to Davao. They should not pass through Manila. This kind of project is exactly on point when it comes to the plans that we have.)
Marcos also said the new airport facility is "a perfect example of what government and the private sector can do."
The President added that this is a very strong signal that the country is open for investments from other nations.
Also in attendance during the event were First Lady Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia-Frasco, and other key officials from the private sector.—AOL, GMA News
