House honors Bulacan Five, says rescuers worthy of emulation
The House of Representatives on Wednesday honored the five rescuers from Bulacan who died in the line of duty amid the onslaught of Typhoon Karding.
The House adopted House Resolution 421 recognizing the bravery of the five members of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) rescue personnel namely:
- Narciso Calayag, Jr.
- Jerson Resurreccion
- Marby Bartolome
- George Agustin and
- Troy Justin Agustin.
The five rescuers died while in an operation in Barangay Kamias in San Miguel, Bulacan.
The resolution was introduced by Speaker Martin Romualdez of Leyte, House Majority Leader Manuel Jose "Mannix" Dalipe of Zamboanga City, House Minority Leader Marcelino Libanan of 4Ps party-list, Senior Deputy Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander Marcos of Ilocos Norte, and Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre of Tingog party-list.
“While in the conduct of their rescue mission, the rescuers were wading through the flood when a wall collapsed on them and were dragged away by the raging flood," the resolution read.
“The five rescuers gave their lives in the service of others and thus, are worthy of commendation and emulation by all Filipinos for their heroism, patriotism, bravery and dedication to public service,” it added.
A copy of the resolution will be furnished to the families of the rescue workers.
Super typhoon Karding devastated huge parts of the provinces of Quezon, Aurora, Zambales, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan and Pampanga. —NB, GMA News
