12 reported dead, 52 hurt, 6 missing due to Karding —NDRRMC


The reported death toll due to Typhoon Karding has increased to 12, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Friday.

In its report, the NDRRMC said the fatalities are reported in Central Luzon and Calabarzon. Of the 12 deaths, eight have been verified so far:

 

  • five fatalities, who are rescuers, in San Miguel, Bulacan due to drowning
  • one in Baliuag, Bulacan due to drowning
  • one in Zambales due to drowning
  • one in Burdeos, Quezon

Meanwhile, the reports on the following fatalities have yet to be verified, according to the NDRRMC:

  • two deaths in Tanay, Rizal due to drowning
  • one in Antipolo, Rizal due to drowning
  • one death in Zambales due to a motorcycle accident

The NDRRMC said six persons are reported missing in Bicol and Calabarzon, and 52 are reported injured in Central Luzon and Calabarzon.

A total of 911,404 people or 245,063 families are affected by Karding in 1,759 barangays in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Cordillera, the NDRRMC said.

It added that 3,955 persons or 921 families are staying inside 27 evacuation centers while 43,860 individuals or 8,951 families are taking shelter in other places.

Due to the typhoon, 56,916 houses sustained damage — 50,025 partially and 6,891 totally — in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, and Cordillera.

A total of P3,053,218,120 worth of damage in agriculture was reported in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Bicol, and Cordillera. The National Irrigation Administration (NIA), on the other hand, reported P23.75 million worth of damage in Cagayan, Bicol, and Calabarzon.

For infrastructure, the NDRRMC said P23,947,400 worth of damage was reported in Ilocos, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Cordillera.

At least 108 areas are still flooded in Calabarzon and Bicol, according to the NDRRMC. A landslide incident was also reported in Calabarzon.

Thirteen roads and three bridges are still not passable in Cagayan, Central Luzon, and Cordillera.

Power outages were experienced in 116 cities and municipalities but 74 of them have been restored. Communication issues are still being experienced in one area in Ilocos.

The NDRRMC said 35 cities and municipalities were placed under state of calamity, including the entire province of Nueva Ecija, as well as Dingalan in Aurora, Macabebe in Pampanga, and San Miguel in Bulacan.

Assistance worth P36,566,330.95 ahs been provided to karding victims in Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, and Cordillera, the NDRRMC said. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
