Philippines posts 2,409 new COVID-19 infections, active cases hit 27,129


The Philippines on Friday registered 2,409 new COVID-19 infections, while the active tally further increased to 27,129.

This was the second straight day with more than 2,000 new cases recorded. Friday’s active tally was also higher than the 26,380 active cases reported on Thursday.

Based on the Department of Health’s latest data, the new cases pushed the nationwide tally to 3,963,666.

The DOH said the National Capital Region posted the highest number of new cases in the past two weeks with 13,144, followed by Calabarzon with 5,434, Central Luzon with 2,870, Davao Region with 1,359, and Western Visayas with 804.

An additional 1,526 recoveries pushed the recovery tally to 3,873,346, while 42 new fatalities brought the death toll to 63,191.

As of Thursday, the country’s bed occupancy rate was 25.6%, with 7,297 occupied and 21,258 vacant beds.

A total of 16,483 individuals were tested for the coronavirus on Thursday, while 341 testing laboratories submitted data. — VBL, GMA News
