Philippines logs 1,585 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 23,369
The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday recorded 1,585 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total nationwide caseload to 3,994,634.
This is the third straight day that fewer than 2,000 new cases were recorded, with 1,702 infections tallied on Saturday.
Based on the DOH’s latest data, the country’s active cases decreased to 23,369 from 23,713 on Saturday. This is the fifth straight day with fewer than 25,000 active infections.
The number of recoveries climbed to 3,907,486 while the death toll rose by 37 to 63,779.
According to the DOH, the regions with the most cases in the last two weeks were the National Capital Region with 7,744 followed by Calabarzon with 4,271 and Central Luzon with 2,469.
The Health Department said at least 12,592 individuals were tested, while 323 testing labs submitted data on October 22.
It said that the bed occupancy in the country is at 25.5%, with 7,289 beds occupied and 21,347 vacant. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
