Reported fatalities due to Paeng climb to 158 —NDRRMC

The reported fatalities due to Severe Tropical Storm Paeng (international name: Nalgae) have increased from 156 to 158, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

Based on NDRRMC’s 6 a.m. report, most of the fatalities were reported in Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) with 63 deaths, followed by Western Visayas with 36 and Calabarzon with 33.

Only 123 of the total reported fatalities have been confirmed so far, while the rest are still up for validation, according to the NDRRMC.

At least 142 people were reported injured and 34 were still reported missing, the NDRRMC added.

A total of 4,661,833 people or 1,310,766 families in 9,795 barangays across all regions were affected by Paeng.

Of the affected population, 44,214 individuals or 9,985 families were still staying inside 356 evacuation centers, while 445,423 persons or 211,674 families or 445,423 were taking shelter in other places.

At least 53,210 houses were damaged—48,236 partially and 4,974 totally.

Damage to agriculture worth P2.989 billion and damage to infrastructure worth P4.514 billion were also reported due to the impact of Paeng.

A total of 522 cities and municipalities were declared under a state of calamity.

According to the NDRRMC, assistance worth P212,562,247.43 have already been provided to Paeng victims.

Paeng made landfall over Camarines Sur on October 29 and exited the Philippine Area of Responsibility on October 31. —KG/VBL, GMA Integrated News
