BuCor releases over 200 PDLs
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) on Thursday released a total of 234 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) from various operating prisons and penal farms.
According to BuCor, most of these were from the New Bilibid Prison at 128.
This was followed by the Davao Prison and Penal Farm at 47 PDLs while 21 PDLs were from the Correctional Institute for Women.
Data showed that of the 234 PDLs released, 106 were released on parole, 104 served their maximum sentence with Good Conduct Time Allowance, while 12 were acquitted.
Meanwhile, of the PDLs from the NBP, eight were acquitted, 71 were released on parole, and 45 served their maximum sentence with GCTA.
The culminating program was attended by Public Attorneys Office chief Persida Acosta and Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.
In September, more than 350 PDLs were released.
In an ambush interview, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said he is eyeing the release of around 5,000 PDLs by June 2023.
“By June 30, I want sana at least 5,000 mapakawalan natin based on the work that we do on a daily basis, based on the carpetas that are there,” Remulla said.
