Proposed single violation ticketing system to improve traffic –LTO's Tugade

The proposed single ticketing system for traffic violations would improve the traffic situation in Metro Manila as it will rid the roads of irresponsible drivers, the chief of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) said Tuesday.

“Indirectly, this will really improve the traffic situation dahil nga po kaakibat po ng pag-implement ng single ticketing system, mamo-monitor na po natin at malalagyan ng demerit points ‘yung mga erring motorists natin,” Transportation Assistant Secretary and LTO chief Jose Arturo Tugade said during PTV’s public briefing.

(Indirectly, this will improve the traffic situation because, alongside implementing the single ticketing system, we can monitor and impose demerits on erring motorists.)

“By doing this, the idea is to relieve our roads from irresponsible drivers,” Tugade said.

The LTO, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, and Metro Manila local government units are currently discussing the implementation of a traffic code using a single ticketing system.

“Ang objective natin dito is to establish uniform definition for traffic violation at kaakibat po ng traffic violation is to establish a common unified penalty system para po ‘pag kumunekta na po ang different LGUs, different government agencies authorized to issue ticket, mamo-monitor natin ang performance ng ating mga driver via a common demerit point system,” the LTO chief said.

(The objective of this is to establish a uniform definition for a traffic violation and complementing this is to establish a common unified penalty system. So by the time the different LGUs and government agencies authorized to issue tickets are connected to the system, we can monitor drivers' performance via a common demerit point system.)

Tugade said that through the single ticketing system, the government can make sure that the privilege to drive will be given to responsible drivers.

The proposed system is to be implemented by the first quarter of 2023, he said.
