MIAA vows to improve services at NAIA after 3rd ‘most stressful’ airport tag


The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) on Friday vowed to improve services at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) after it was named the third “most stressful” airport in Asia and Oceania.

MIAA senior assistant general manager Bryan Co issued the remark after the website Hawaiian Islands recently reported that 57.81% of reviews for NAIA indicated stress.

“We accept all of these as constructive inputs for us to improve ang ating serbisyo dito sa (these services at) NAIA,” Co said at the public briefing.

He said they are doing a lot of things including the terminal reassignment to balance the capacity in order to avoid congestion.

“Ang number one complaint in terms of being stressful ay 'yung haba ng pila o 'yung mga congestion na sinasabi natin but as you’ve noted one of the things that we removed also is the initial screening as well as the vehicle checkpoint so talagang dahan dahan iniimplement natin itong mga programa,” he said.

“Ngunit hindi naman pwede gawin overnight of course we have to study it properly para by the time we implement it we do not sacrifice 'yung mga safety, security, and other components that we have to ensure para sa ating mga pasahero dito sa NAIA,” he added.

On delayed baggage and baggage carts, Co said they are coordinating with the major airlines and ground handlers to make sure that they have enough personnel in order to prevent delays, especially for the arriving passengers.

“In terms of the baggage carts naman po we are glad to report that with the service provider nakipag-ugnayan tayo sa kanila upang kolektahin agad ang mga baggage carts na ginagamit ng ating mga pasahero upang maibalik ito sa ating mga arriving carousels para magamit ng mga ibang pasahero na pararating,” he said.

(In terms of the baggage carts, we are glad to report that with the service provider we contacted them to immediately collect the baggage carts used by our passengers so that they can be returned to our arriving carousels for other passengers to use.)

“Kasi ‘yun ang pinakaimportante na di po natetengga, ang mga push carts sa ating paradahan at nakokolekta at naibabalik ito agad for circulation po,” he said.

The website Hawaiian Islands came up with the rankings after looking through 1,500 Google reviews for over 500 airports around the world and ranking based on the percentage of reviews that indicated stress.

As to the most stressful airport in the world, the United Kingdom's Manchester Airport topped the list with 82.5% of its reviews indicating stress. The report said that the stressed reviews could be attributed to the 29.4 million passengers passing through it annually, coupled with staff shortages and long lines.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
