Stray bullet incident reported in Visayas —PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it has received a report of an alleged stray bullet incident in Visayas ahead of the New Year celebrations.

“Dito po sa may Visayas po, may natanggap po tayong report na meron po tayong allegedly na biktima po ng stray bullet. At yan naman po ay ating ini-imbestigahan,” PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said in a televised public briefing.

(In Visayas, we received a report that there was an alleged victim of a stray bullet. We are investigating it.)

Fajardo said the police have yet to determine if the stray bullet came from illegal discharge or accidental firing.

Before Christmas Day, Fajardo said they monitored at least three civilians who were allegedly involved in illegal discharge of firearms.

During the previous holiday season, or from December 16, 2021 to January 2, 2022, the PNP said at least 18 cases of illegal discharge of firearms were recorded.

The PNP also recorded four alleged stray bullet incidents in Ilocos, Calabarzon, Northern Mindanao, and Cordillera. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
