Sources of 'memo' on alleged AFP destab plot identified, says PNP

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday said its Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) has identified the sources of a  supposed memorandum placing the police force on high alert amid rumors of destabilization plot in the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

According to PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo, the ACG and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) are looking into social media posts regarding the supposed memo.

"May mga na-identify na po 'yung ating PNP-ACG 'yung mga source nitong mga dokumento [Our PNP-ACG has identified sources of these documents]," Fajardo told Unang Balita in an interview.

Fajardo, however, said she is not at liberty to divulge the findings of the ACG on the matter.

Authorities are investigating the unsigned papers and asking explanations from police officers whose names appeared on the documents, she said.

The PNP and AFP have both denied the rumors of the alleged destabilization plot in the military that circulated on social media over the weekend.

According to the PNP, the heightened alert of the police organization is for the activities of the Black Nazarene Feast.

The destabilization rumors and heightened police alert floated after the supposed resignations in the Department of National Defense (DND).

On Monday, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. named Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. as the secretary of the DND after its officer-in-charge, Senior Undersecretary Jose Faustino Jr., resigned.

Marcos also earlier appointed General Andres Centino back as AFP chief, replacing his previous appointee, Lieutenant General Bartolome Bacarro, who only served for almost five months. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
