Reported fatalities due to bad weather now 33 —NDRRMC


The reported death toll from the inclement weather due to low pressure areas, northeast monsoon, and shearline since January 1 has increased to 33, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Thursday.

In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said 11 of the reported deaths are in Zamboanga, eight in Northern Mindanao, seven in Eastern Visayas, five in Bicol, and one each in Davao and Soccsksargen.

Only 18 of the reported fatalities have been confirmed so far, according to the NDRRMC.

At least seven people were still reported missing while 12 were reported injured due to the effects of the bad weather.

A total of 1,678,440 people or 412,339 families were affected in Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga, Northern Mindanao, Davao, Soccsksargen, Caraga, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Of the affected population, 199,867 persons or 48,271 families were staying in 512 evacuation centers while 66,482 persons or 17,040 families were taking shelter in other places.

At least 1,672 houses were reported damaged — 1,145 partially and 527 totally.

Damage to agriculture worth P414,347,212 and to infrastructure worth P206,956,824 were reported. The National Irrigation Administration also reported P25,610,000 worth of damage.

According to the NDRRMC, assistance with P86,821,762 has been provided to the victims so far.
