Ateneo basic education schools to go full co-ed by SY 2029-2030

The Ateneo de Manila University has approved the implementation of a co-education system granting access to female students in its basic education schools.

According to the memorandum signed by university president Fr. Roberto Yap, the Ateneo board of trustees on February 4 approved the full implementation of the co-ed scheme by the school year 2029-2030.

The preparatory year for the system will be in 2023-2024 while co-ed admission  in kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 7 levels will start in 2024-2025.

"This is in response to our goal in the Lux-in-Domino Strategic Plan: Strategic, targeted growth in the university’s student population to increase access to and impact of the Ateneo de Manila education, specifically the strategy to increase student diversity by granting female students access to the Ateneo de Manila basic education schools," Yap said in the memo.

"The Vice President for Basic Education has been tasked to put together the communication plan, facilities and infrastructure requirements, as well as the academic, formation and capability development aspects of the co-ed scheme," he added.

Yap urged "the community to pray for the smooth implementation of a full co-education in the Basic Education." —Sherylin Untalan/NB, GMA Integrated News
