Moon has not been sighted, Eid'l Fitr to be celebrated on April 22

The celebration of Eid'l Fitr (end of the month of Ramadan) will be on Saturday, April 22, according to a Muslim leader on Thursday night.

Grand Mufti of the Bangsamoro Abuhuraira Udasan made the announcement after the traditional moon-sighting activity was performed.

"Bangsamoro Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan officially announced that the moon HAS NOT BEEN SIGHTED — signifying that Eid'l Fitr (Feast of Breaking the Fast) will be on Saturday, April 22, 2023,” the Bangsamoro government said.

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has declared April 21, 2023 as a regular holiday in observance of the Eid'l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadhan.

Marcos said that it is necessary to declare April 21 as a regular holiday to "bring the religious and cultural significance of the Eid'l Fitr to the fore of national consciousness.”

One of the most important occasions in Islam, and known as the festival of the breaking of the fast, Eid’l Fitr marks the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
