Marcos to take up Philippine economic agenda in Washington —DFA

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will also pursue the Philippines' economic agenda aside from discussing defense and security when he goes to Washington for an official visit, a foreign affairs official said on Friday.

At a briefing in Malacañang, DFA spokesperson Tess Daza said Marcos would also take up his plans for agriculture and food security, in terms of infrastructure development, in terms of renewable energy, and clean energy.

"Discussion on security and defense is given. It’s something that will actually be raised. But I think for this trip, there will be a heavy emphasis in terms of the economic agenda," Daza said.

"How the President will actually work to advance his priorities in terms of agriculture and food security, in terms of infrastructure development, in terms of renewable energy, and clean energy. So, these are some of the sectors that will actually be highlighted during the visit itself," she added.

Daza reiterated that Marcos would have a bilateral talk with US President Joe Biden on May 1 and an expanded meeting with other American officials. She mentioned that the Chief Executive would also meet with various firms to woo possible investors.

"He will have his official meetings across the duration of his trip. But when it comes to President Biden, it will be on May 1," said Daza.

"He will also have an expanded bilateral. He will meet with different companies where he will actually be able to promote the Philippines, both as a trading partner, as well as an investment market," she added.

Marcos will also probably meet with the Filipino community in Washington, according to the DFA official.

The President will be leaving the country on Sunday, April 30. He will depart Washington to return to Manila on May 4. —NB, GMA Integrated News
