VP Sara pushes for work culture that values better wages, mental health

In commemoration of Labor Day, Vice President Sara Duterte on Monday called on the nation to advocate for a work culture that sees the importance of better wages, workers’ mental health, gender-responsive policies, and career growth opportunities, among others.

Duterte said the government is promoting better labor conditions, training and upskilling, and is seeking ways to improve the employability of the Filipino workforce to show support for workers’ rights.

“We recognize the need for more decent and quality jobs that are fulfilling and supportive of individual growth and push for the emergence of a work culture that understands the evolving demands of competing responsibilities as a global workforce and as a responsible family member,” she said.

“I enjoin everyone to advocate a work culture that values mental health and well-being along with better wages, safer and healthier working spaces, gender-responsive policies, creative strategies that support working mothers, single parents, and working students, better career growth opportunities, and personal work fulfillment for all Filipinos.”

Duterte further said as “one of the most important foundations of nation-building,” the Filipino workforce’s progress and success contribute to a better economy.

Duterte, who also sits as Education secretary, also envisioned a strong foundation that would hone learners to be ready for their future.

“Sa susunod na limang taon, sisikapin ng Kagawaran ng Edukasyon na bumuo ng matibay na pundasyon ng kaalaman at kasanayan para maging handa sa hinaharap ang ating kabataang Pilipino at makaakit ng mas dekalidad at disenteng trabaho,” she added.
