CAAP airports prepare for Mawar

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Wednesday its airports are implementing precautionary measures in preparation for Typhoon Mawar.

“Airports located within the possible path of Mawar, such as Ilocos region and Cagayan Valley airports, have already conducted pre-typhoon coordination meetings and assessments to gear up for possible weather disturbance,” the CAAP said in an advisory.

“Malasakit Help Kits including food packs will also be distributed to affected travelers,” it said.

State weather bureau PAGASA said that Mawar, initially categorized as super typhoon, was downgraded into a typhoon as of Wedenesday morning.

Mawar remains outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) but is expected to enter PAR later this week.

Once the typhoon enters PAR, it will be named “Betty.”

Apart from typhoon preparedness plans, CAAP Tacloban also conducted a regular in-airport incident drill on May 23, as part of its ongoing efforts to ensure readiness in times of unwanted aircraft incidents,” the CAAP said.

“This comprehensive drill, which is performed every six months, allows airport personnel to practice and evaluate their response strategies, coordination, and communication procedures in simulated emergency situations,” it said.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
