DOH records 898 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 12,385


The Department of Health on Wednesday registered 898 new coronavirus infections, bringing the nationwide caseload to 4,151,079.

Today's tally is higher than Tuesday's 676, an increase after five straight days of decreasing new cases, according to the GMA Integrated News Research.

Meanwhile, the country's active cases slightly dropped to 12,385 from 12,431 on Tuesday.

The recovery tally, however, jumped to 4,072,231.

No new deaths were recorded, retaining the country's death toll at 66,481.

In the past two weeks, the National Capital Region (NCR) has the highest number of new cases with 5,472, followed by Calabarzon with 3,866, Central Luzon with 2,252, Western Visayas with 1,500, and Cagayan Valley with 988.

Among the cities and provinces, Quezon City had the most new cases in the last 14 days with 1,379, Cavite with 1,284, Iloilo with 882, Bulacan with 868, and Rizal with 862.

The DOH said 7,821 individuals were tested, while 319 testing labs submitted data as of June 6.

The Philippines' COVID-19 bed occupancy is currently at 20.5%, with 5,219 occupied and 20,201 vacant. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA Integrated News
