‘TO CHECK ON PINOYS AS WELL'

Marcos hopes to attend climate change conference in Dubai

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Thursday that he is hoping to attend the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Dubai this December 2023.

“I hope we will be able to attend because climate change is a primordial issue,” Marcos told reporters.

It was UAE Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Alzaabi who relayed the invitation to Marcos during a courtesy visit on Tuesday.

Further, Marcos said he would also like to check the situation of overseas Filipino workers in the country.

He said the ties with the United Arab Emirates should be renewed to continue ensuring the welfare of Filipinos working there.

“Beyond the conference of parties is that we also want to renew our ties with UAE, madaming Pilipino doon, kaya’t kailangan makatiyak tayo na patuloy ang kanilang magandang pagtrato sa ating mga kababayan sa UAE,” Marcos said.

“They have been very welcoming, they have treated our people very well. Yhey have protected them, and they have allowed them to make a living in the UAE so that’s something that we hope to continue and even progress further,” he added.

The COP is the supreme decision-making body of the Convention which is tasked with reviewing the national communications and emission inventories submitted by parties. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
