Philippines logs 722 new COVID-19 cases; active tally at 9,338


The Philippines recorded 722 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing the nationwide caseload to 4,157,894.

The active tally, however, dropped to 9,338 cases.

According to GMA Integrated News Research, this is the lowest for the past 42 days and the third straight day with fewer than 10,000 active cases.

Total recoveries increased to 4,082,075, while the death toll stayed at 66,481. This is the tenth straight day of no new recorded deaths.

In the past two weeks, the National Capital Region registered the highest number of new cases with 2,946, followed by Calabarzon with 2,106, Central Luzon with 1,720, Western Visayas with 1,074, and Cagayan Valley with 813.

Among cities and provinces, Quezon City topped the list with 731 new cases in the past 14 days, followed by Cavite with 700, Iloilo with 638, Bulacan with 516, and Laguna with 495.

A total of 7,030 individuals were tested on Thursday, and 315 testing laboratories submitted data.

As of Thursday, the national COVID-19 bed occupancy rate was 18.5%, with 4,653 occupied and 20,530 vacant beds. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
