Info drive launched to help OFWs fight abuse, trafficking

An information campaign was launched aimed at helping migrant workers stand up against discrimination, human trafficking and abuse.

According to JP Soriano’s report on “24 Oras,” the Public Campaign on Safe and Fair Migration in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was a collaboration of the Department of Migrant Workers, European Union and ASEAN.

Audio visual presentations (AVP) will be produced “to equip prospective and current migrant workers with reliable and comprehensive information to help them better prepare for migration and safeguard against exploitation.”

This can be heard in English and can be read in eight languages , including Tagalog.

The AVP alerts OFWs for signs of labor exploitation such as excessive working days or hours; bad living conditions; low or no salary; and, the lack of social protection like health care.

OFWs are also given hotlines or contact numbers for urgent assistance.—Jiselle Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
