Asdala widow nails stenographer to slay

MANILA, Philippines - The widow of Elections law department officer in charge Wynne Asdala believes an employee in the poll body might crack the murder case of her husband wide open, News on Q reported late Thursday night. Unidentified motorcycle-riding men gunned down Asdala on March 24 near the Comelec headquarters, four months after the law department head Alioden Dalaig was killed outside a casino in Manila. Fatima Asdala, widow of Wynne, told News on Q that she doubts the killing of her husband was related to one of the cases he was handling. She pointed to a stenographer who she said is the key to solving the celebrated case. “There are some people in the Comelec who are blocking his (Wynne) appointment to the position vacated by Attorney Dalaig upon his death," Fatima told News on Q. Mrs Asdala said investigators should question stenographer Rena Ballo, who was with Wynne when he was killed. She said Ballo knows her husband well. “I immediately told the NBI (National Bureau of Investigation) to put this woman on the number one list of suspects," Mrs Asdala said. “She is always with my husband and all the movements and whereabouts of my husband is known to this woman." Comelec Chairman Jose Melo said the investigation into the case by the NBI and the Manila Police District would go unhampered even if officials and commissioners were implicated. “We will allow the investigation of both MPD and NBI to go unhampered without us interfering in any manner," Melo told News on Q. Since the March 24 slaying of Asdala, Ballo did not show up at Comelec’s law department office. In her sworn statement before homicide investigators, she said she is not aware of any threat to Asdala’s life. She believes, however, that the killing may be linked to one of the election cases Asdala was handling at the law department. She said the killing of Asdala and Dalaig could be related. Ballo described one of the perpetrators as dark-skinned, skinny, 5’2" in height and between 28 and 35 years old. The triggerman, she said, was wearing a red T-shirt, skinny and about 5’2" and between 28 and 35 years old and Chinky-eyed. - GMANews.TV
