DMW coordinating with HK police on death of OFW
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Tuesday said it will extend assistance to the bereaved family of a Filipina domestic worker who was found dead in Hong Kong.
In a media briefing, DMW Undersecretary Hans Cacdac expressed sympathy to the kin of Nery (not her real name) whose body was found near a pier in Tsing Yi after she was reported missing for days.
Cacdac said the DMW and the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong are now coordinating with the police in the investigation.
He also conveyed the family’s request for privacy to grieve their loss.
“We are one and condole with the family and wish to guarantee and provide them assurances of support,” Cacdac said.
According to JP Soriano's report on "24 Oras," the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) was said to have asked for leave from her employer so she could go out on her day off on Sunday.
The report said the OFW, who had been described as more than 50 years old, never returned home.
Citing reports, the DMW said it was the OFW's employer who reported to the police that she was missing.
Hong Kong authorities informed the Department of Foreign Affairs and the DMW of the discovery of the remains.
There remains no official information on the cause of death of the victim.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
