Marcos arrives at Batasang Pambansa for 2nd SONA
President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. arrived at the Batasang Pambansa complex in Quezon City on Monday afternoon to deliver his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) before a joint session of Congress.
The President's helicopter landed at the Batasan grounds at 3:41 p.m.
Marcos was welcomed by newly-appointed Armed Forces of the Philippines chief, General Romeo Brawner.
His sister, Senator Imee Marcos, Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri also welcomed the President at the executive lounge of the House of Representatives.
Upon arrival, the President proceeded to the holding room together with First Lady Louise "Liza" Araneta-Marcos.
According to presidential son and Ilocos Norte Representative Ferdinand Alexander "Sandro" Marcos, the President's speech will last for one hour and 25 minutes.
Sandro said his father wrote his SONA, noting that a lot of revisions were made.
"It's so different than the first year. He wrote the speech... I think to begin with medyo mahaba, pero he was able to shave it down a little bit," said Sandro.
"It will essentially be a report on what has been done in the last year and what problems we continue to face," he added.
Last week, Marcos said he would present to Filipinos the progress the country has made under his leadership.
"It's really very simple. It's just a performance report for Filipinos to see sa dami ng mga pronouncements, sa dami ng mga salita, kung ito ba ay talagang may kabuluhan, salita lamang," Marcos said in the City of San Fernando in Pampanga.
(It's just a performance report for Filipinos to see if the many pronouncements and words said were relevant or were just mere words.)
"We'll see. That's what I want to explain to people, that we have made significant progress. We can see the difference now, not only in terms of how the systems work, how the government works, it is also how we are seen or judged in the international community. That's equally important," he added. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
