Marcos willing to partner with Zimbabwe on agri sector

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said Thursday that he is open to strengthening agricultural relations with Zimbabwe.

This, as Zimbabwean non-resident Ambassador to the Philippines Constance Chemwayi presented her credentials to Marcos at the Malacañang Palace.

Marcos also said that the Philippines can also extend assistance to Zimbabwe in developing its agriculture sector.

"Like you, we are prioritizing agriculture. And in fact, it is both the supply and the price of agricultural commodities. And with that, we talk not only about products, but even the inputs such as fertilizer. I think we are all undergoing that," Marcos said in a press release.

"So, I hope that we can find a way. We happen to have a very well-developed research and development and schools that have been actually the premier schools for agriculturists and agronomists here in Asia," added the President.

For her part, Chemwayi said she looks forward to a lot of things that Zimbabwe can learn from the Philippines, including the country's way of developing improving the economy.

Chemwayi said Zimbabwe is prioritizing enhancing its agricultural and infrastructure sectors with the goal of becoming a middle-income country by 2030.

She also said the country is pushing for the creation of more agricultural universities. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
