Comelec: Honoraria for poll workers increased to P10,000

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Tuesday said the honoraria for poll workers has been increased up to P10,000 for the upcoming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE).

In an ambush interview, Comelec chairperson George Garcia said the increase in honoraria comes from the savings of the poll body.

“Sa halip na P6,000 at P5,000 na ibibigay natin, minarapat po ng Comelec na gawing P10,000 at P9,000 ang ibibigay natin sa chairman at members ng electoral board,” he said.

(Instead of P6,000 and P5,000, the Comelec decided to give the chairman and electoral board members P10,000 and P9,000 of honoraria.)

“Ibig sabihin, tinaasan natin base sa aming naipon at natipid sa mga procurement natin (It means we increased the honoraria based on our savings from procurement) ” he added.

Aside from this, Garcia said poll workers in areas where a plebiscite will be conducted like in Bulacan will receive an additional P2,000.

The same additional amount will be given to poll workers in Naga and Muntinlupa where early voting hours will be opened for senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women, he added.

A DepEd Supervisor Official (DESO) will receive 9,000 for the poll duty. On the other hand, support staff will receive P5,500.

Death benefit worth P500,000 will be provided for those who die due to election-related risk.

Medical assistance not exceeding P200,000 will be given to those who will suffer election-related injury or illness.

According to the Comelec, there are 823,539 poll workers who will serve in the BSKE.

The Comelec said a total of 91,094,089 voters have registered for BSKE 2023 as of June 19.

There are 37,259 voting centers across the country. For the barangay level, there are 425,964 established precincts. For SK level, there are 421,225.

The conduct of BSKE 2023 is on October 30. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
