Taguig's EMBO candidates start filing CoCs

Aspiring candidates for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) in EMBO barangays recently transferred to Taguig City from Makati have already started filing their certificates of candidacy (COC).

In a press release issued by the Taguig local government on Tuesday, Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairperson George Garcia said there has been a high turnout of aspiring candidates in Taguig City.

"Nagpapasalamat kami, natutuwa kami dahil nilipat namin ang filing of certificate of candidacy dito sa Taguig at simula kaninang napaka-aga pa lang, madami nang nag-file ng certificates of candidacy mula sa 10 EMBO barangays at hanggang ngayon mayroong nandyan nakapila, at may intensyon na mag-file dito sa Taguig," Garcia said.

(We are thankful, we are grateful and even if we transfer the filing of CoCs in Taguig City, a lot of individuals have trooped to file their candidacy in the 10 EMBO barangays.)

Taguig City Election Officer Edgar Aringay said that while there would be changes in the precinct numbers of the concerned barangays, the voting centers and classrooms where the EMBO barangays used to vote would be similar.

"The change happened because the voters who were in Makati have the same precinct number as our precincts here in Taguig," Aringay said.

"So, if it’s a single database or record, we need to change the precinct numbers to avoid the similarity with the precinct numbers here in Taguig,” he added.

The filing of CoCs for the 2023 BSKE polls will be until September 2.

Previously, Makati City Mayor Abby Binay asked the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) to "intervene" and assist in the transition of some barangays to the Taguig City government.
