BIR records 100% resolution, compliance rates in complaints handling

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) on Thursday said it achieved 100% resolution and 100% compliance rate in handling complaints during the first six months of 2023.

Citing a report from the Office of the President’s 8888 Citizens’ Complaint Center, the BIR said from January to June it received a total of 734 citizens’ concerns or complaints.

The taxman said all the received concerns and complaints were acted upon, resolved, and closed within the 72-hour compliance period.

The tax collection bureau said this translates to “a compliance rate of 100% on the 72-hour compliance period and 100% resolution rate on all referred concerns within this period.”

“The BIR will address all corruption and red-tape complaints. I am committed to professionalizing the BIR and to establishing a culture of integrity amongst its ranks,” said BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui Jr.

The BIR collected P273.134 billion in July this year, exceeding its target by 5.09% for the period.

For the January to July period, the taxman collected a total of P1.492 trillion, up 12.21% or P162.404 billion year-on-year.

Lumagui earlier attributed the BIR’s collection performance to intensified enforcement activities such as its campaign against sellers and buyers of fake receipts.

For the entire year, the BIR set a target of P2.639 trillion, higher by 12.99% or P303.5 billion than its actual collection in 2022.—AOL, GMA Integrated News
