TRB begins 2-month dry run for cashless toll collection

The Toll Regulatory Board’s two-month dry run for cashless transactions in Philippine tollways has officially begun.

According to a 24 Oras report by Ian Cruz on Friday, the results of the dry run would determine the possibility of full implementation of cashless toll collection nationwide.

Data released by the TRB said that 20% to 30% of Philippine motorists still use cash lanes at toll gates, but a full implementation of the cashless toll collection would allow apprehension of motorists without RFIDs or sufficient load in their RFID accounts.

“Pumasok kayo sa RFID, wala kayong RFID. That is disregarding traffic sign. Mayroon din po, ‘di kayo nagpaload, wala kayong load. Alam niyo naming bago kayo pumasok diyan, you have enough load. You will be obstructing traffic. That is traffic obstruction, another violation,” said TRB Spokesperson Julius Corpus.

Should the dry run succeed, the TRB will submit a recommendation for full implementation of cashless toll collection to the Department of Transportation.
