CA confirmation hearing on Gibo Teodoro appointment set for September 13

The bicameral Commission on Appointments (CA) deliberations on Gilberto Teodoro Jr.'s appointment as Secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) was set for next Wednesday-September 13, 2023.

Teodoro ran for a Senate seat in 2022, and the deliberations on his confirmation comes after the lapse of the one-year prohibition against the appointment of candidates who lost in last year’s elections.

According to Assistant Minority Leader and Surigao del Sur Representative Johnny Pimentel, the CA will also hold confirmation hearings on the nominations of several ambassadors — Charlie Manangan for Iraq, and Kira Azucena for Niue and New Zealand.

It would also hold a confirmation hearing on the appointment of Erlinda Uy as a regular member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), representing the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).

Other appointments awaiting the approval of the CA were Health Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, and Foreign Service Officer Class IV Catherine Sy, along with 24 newly promoted senior military officers.

The officers include Steve Crespillo for Lieutenant General; Arvin Lagamon for Major General; and Benedict Balaba, Lloyd Cabacungan, Thad Rufino Candelario, Ramon Flores, Nasser Lidasan, Joselito Lopena, Jose Jesus Luntok, Dennis Pacis, Ivan Papera, Ranulfo Sevilla, and Fernando Venture for Brigadier General.

Also awaiting confirmation are Brendo Casaclang, Peter Jempsun De Guzman, Richard Gonzaga, and Salvador Lavapie Jr. for Commodore; and Elba Cruz, Antonio Esmero, Suharto Mangudadatu, Roger Mercado, Elmer Nicolas, Rolando Ong, and Rogelio Padre Sr. for Colonel. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
