House reso recognizing Asian Games medalists, Olympic qualifiers filed


A resolution granting recognition to the medalists in the recently concluded Asian Games in China and those who qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympics has been filed in the House of Representatives.

In House Resolution 1364, Deputy Minority Leader Bernadette Herrera proposed giving  a Plaque of Distinction to the 2023 Asiad gold medalists and 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers.

She said silver and bronze medalists will receive Certificate of Commendation while new record holders will be given a Certificate of Recognition.

The Philippines finished the Asian Games with four gold medals won by pole vaulter EJ Obiena, the Gilas Pilipinas men's basketball team, Margarita Ochoa in 48 kilogram jiu-jitsu, and Anne Ramirez in 57 kilogram jiu-jitsu.

In addition to the gold medal, Obiena also qualified for his second Olympics and set a new Asian Games record of jumping over 5.90 meters.

Other Olympic qualifiers in the aftermath of the Asian Games include boxer and 2021 Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial, who won the silver medal in the 80 kilogram division, as well as gymnast Aleah Finnegan.

Filipino athletes who won bronze medals in the Asian Games, on the other hand, include:

  • tennis mixed doubles tandem of Alexandra Eala and Francis Casey Alcantara;
  • sepak takraw team of Rheyjey Ortouste, Jason Huerte, Vince Torno, Mark Joseph Gonzales, Ronsited Gabayeron, and Jom Lerry Rafael.

Meanwhile, gymnast Carlos Yulo booked his  2024 Paris Olympics ticket in the men's floor exercise event by finishing third in the World Championships qualification round. Yulo. —AOL, GMA Integrated News
