'TO INCREASE PUBLIC AWARENESS'

Marcos declares October 10-16 as 'Linggo ng Lupong Tagapamayapa'

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has declared October 10 to 16 of every year as “Linggo ng Lupong Tagapamayapa," with the aim of increasing public awareness about the role of barangay officials in maintaining peace and order in the community.

“There is a need to increase public awareness on the functions of the Lupong Tagapamayapa, and recognize the valuable contributions of the members thereof in the preservation and maintenance of peace and order in barangays,” Marcos' Proclamation No. 358 stated.

The said proclamation was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on October 9.

Under the proclamation, the Department of Interior and Local Government is tasked to take the lead in promoting the observance of the Linggo ng Lupong Tagapamayapa and identify events, projects, and activities that will mark the yearly celebration.

The Presidential Communications Office said that a Lupong Tagapamayapa is a body which exercises administrative supervision on matters relevant to the amicable settlement of barangay disputes.

The body is composed of the Punong Barangay as Chairperson and not less than 10 nor more than 20 members. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
