Disqualification cases filed vs. premature campaigners in BSKE now at 125

The number of disqualification petitions filed against 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) candidates over alleged premature campaigning has now reached 125, according to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia.

This is expected to increase in the coming days, as there are 301 disqualification cases that may be filed based on Comelec’s initial assessment.

As of October 13, there were 148 subpoenas issued and served for verified complaints, while 6,463 show-cause orders were issued for unverified complaints.

Of the over 6,000 show-cause orders released, Garcia said 2,894 were answered by the respondents.

Apart from disqualification petitions filed over alleged premature campaigning, the Comelec also pursued disqualification cases against BSKE bets over alleged vote-buying. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
