PCSO: Lotto winner with partially burned ticket to receive P12-M prize

The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has assured a Lotto 6/42 winner with an ironed and burned ticket that it will release his P12 million winnings.

In a statement, the PCSO said its general manager, Mel Robles, has met with the winner and his wife in his office in Mandaluyong to discuss the situation.

“I assured him that I will expedite the process of his claim. Kailangan lang may certificate of finality from SC (a certificate of finality from the Supreme Court is needed). I will make sure that he enjoys the fruits of his winnings ASAP. I wanted to put a closure on this issue,” the statement quoted Roble as saying.

The Supreme Court has ordered the PCSO to pay the winner P12.3 million for the Lotto 6/42 jackpot prize nine years since he won.

The winner won the lotto in October 2013, but his granddaughter had crumpled his winning ticket.

His daughter then covered the ticket in a piece of cloth and attempted to straighten it with a flat iron.

According to the PCSO, it will release the winnings immediately once the necessary processes are finished. —Joahna Lei Casilao/KBK, GMA Integrated News
