DepEd leaves class suspensions to LGUs for Nov. 20 transport strike

The Department of Education on Saturday said that it will not issue class suspensions for the nationwide transport strike that will start on November 20.

"No cancellation of classes will be issued by the Department of Education (DepEd)," said DepEd in an advisory.

DepEd, however, emphasized that local government units (LGUs) have the discretion to suspend classes depending on the situation in their areas.

"Unless local government units announce cancellation and/ or suspension of classes in their respective jurisdictions, schools shall hold classes without disuption," added DepEd.

The Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operators Nationwide (PISTON) will be holding the transport strike from Nov. 20 to 23 in protest of the government’s public utility vehicle modernization program (PUVMP). —VAL, GMA Integrated News
