Imee on Sara impeachment talks: 'Maawa naman kayo sa Pilipinas'
Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday had "plea" to those who are supposedly attacking Vice President Sara Duterte amid impeachment talks.
"Sana maawa naman sila sa Pilipinas,” Marcos said in an interview in Navotas City.
(Have mercy on the Philippines.)
“Ang dami-dami na nating problema. Maawa naman kayo sa administrasyon, maawa kayo sa mga Pilipinong naghihikaos, hindi makabili ng sapat na pagkain, pagkamahal-mahal, papasok pa ‘yung Pasko at mahiya naman tayo being a Filipino,” added Marcos.
(We are facing a lot of problems. Please consider the administration and the Filipinos who cannot even afford to buy decent food. Be ashamed of your actions.)
“Pambihira naman ang dami-daming problema dadagdagan pa ng gulong pulitika na nagmula lamang sa ambisyon at pagnanais umupo sa posisyon sa 2025, 2028. Ang dami naman n’yan,” she said.
(These political maneuvers are rooted in their political ambitions for 2025 and 2028.)
Asked if her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte remain on good terms, Marcos said she believes so.
“Palagay ko sa tingin ko, sa kapatid, sa akin, saking presidente, sa aking bise presidente, palagay ko maayos naman. Ang mahirap dyan, maraming nakikigulo,” she said.
“’Yung mga principal--yung kapatid ko, ako, si VP Sara Duterte, si PRRD (former President Rodrigo Duterte) palagay ko hindi naman problematic. ‘Yung iba na nanggugulo dyan. Ewan ko na lang,” she added.
(I think my brother, who is my president, and my vice president are okay. There are just other individuals who are making their relationship complicated. The relationship of the principals even with former President Rodrigo Duterte is not problematic.)
She, however, did not specify who she was referring to.
President Marcos earlier this week said that Duterte does not deserve to be impeached amid the claim of a lawmaker that some members of the House of Representatives are talking about it.
ICC probe
Senator Imee Marcos, meanwhile, also took a swipe at a House resolution urging the government to cooperate with the International Criminal Court (ICC) probe related to former President Rodrigo Duterte's "war on drugs."
“Ipapasa pa daw ‘yung ICC resolution na pakialamanan tayo ng dayuhan samantalang sa mga korte natin napapatunayan naman na umaandar, malaya at at matibay. Bakit papapasukin pa yung iba. Dyan ako nagtataka,” she said.
(There is also an ICC resolution where foreigners will interfere with our proceedings even if the courts are proven to be functioning, free, and sturdy. Why will we allow the foreigners to dip their fingers in our affairs?)
For the senator, it is a “shame” if the ICC investigators will be allowed to enter the country.
“’Wag tayong papayag payag na ganyan. Isipin niyo para nating sinurender ang soberanya, hindi na tayo republika, para na tayong umaasa na sa kanila,” she said.
(Let’s not allow ICC to enter the country. It’s like surrendering our sovereignty. We are no longer a republic. It would show that we are depending on them.)
To support her position, Marcos mentioned anew that the grant of former Senator Leila de Lima’s bail petition proves that the Judiciary is functioning. —VAL, GMA Integrated News
