Philippines registers slight drop in overall crime incidences

The Philippines reported a 0.14% decrease in the overall crime rate this year compared to the same period in 2022, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said.

In a statement Thursday, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) cited a PNP report showing the drop in the country’s overall crime incidences and the 1.38% increase in Crime Solution Efficiency (CSE) from January to December 2023.

The report also saw a decrease in the Philippines' index and non-index crime by 8.44% and 7.32%, respectively.

“Improvements are also noted in 7 of the 8 focus index crimes,” the DILG said.

The eight PNP focus crimes were murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, car theft, and motorcycle theft.

In November, the PNP said the crime rate in the country from January to October 2023 dropped by around 8% year-on-year.

DILG programs

Apart from the improved crime rate, the DILG also said it extended P9.14 million worth of financial assistance to 1,119 former rebels in 2023 under the DILG-administered Package of Assistance under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program.

The Emergency 911 Hotline also received 21,011,391 calls as of November. Of the figures, 26,833 were emergency calls. —NB, GMA Integrated News
