MIAA urges travelers to check flights to and from Haneda Airport

The Manila International Airport Authority, on Tuesday, reminded travelers flying to and from Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND) to check their flight status following the closure of HND runways due to a burning plane.

In a Facebook post, the MIAA said that Philippine Airlines flight PR424 and Japan Airlines flight JL78 were awaiting clearance, while the departed Nippon Airways flight NH870 was diverted to Kansai Airport (KIX).

The HND runways were closed after Japan Airlines flight A350 caught fire after a collision with a Japan Coast Guard aircraft at the Haneda Airport on Tuesday at around 6:00 p.m.

While all 367 passengers and 12 crew members of the Japan Airlines flight were safely evacuated, five out of the six crew members of the Coast Guard aircraft reportedly died in the collision.

The aircraft was reportedly set to deliver aid to Japan’s west coast because of the magnitude 7.6 earthquake that struck on New Year’s Day. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
