Marcos vows to monitor, sustain 'Kalinisan' program

President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Tuesday vowed that his administration would sustain the momentum of the government's ''Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas” nationwide clean-up program.

In a video message, Marcos said he would personally monitor the progress of the project, noting that the performances of barangay councils would be looked into.

“Ano ba ang bago rito? Ano ang bago na itinatatag natin sa Bagong Pilipinas? Ang kaayusan at kalinisan sa bawat barangay ay gagawin nating tuloy-tuloy; buwan-buwan na susukatin ang performance ng Barangay Council, at kikilalanin natin at pararangalan natin ang mga outstanding na performance,” said Marcos.

(What's new with this? What's new with the Bagong Pilipinas that we established? We will continue the cleanliness and orderliness of our barangays. We will gauge the performance of barangay councils every month and we will recognize those who performed outstandingly.)

“Higit sa lahat, ang kaayusan at kalinisan sa bawat barangay ay tutukan ng inyong Pangulo. Iyan ang isang bago sa Bagong Pilipinas. Mga Kabarangay, saludo ako sa inyo!” he added.

(I will monitor the cleanliness and orderliness of every barangay in our society. That's among the new things in our Bagong Pilipinas. I salute all of you!)

Last week, Marcos urged LGUs to be part of the nationwide clean-up program, ''Kalinisan sa Bagong Pilipinas,'' which aims to clean up all roads, canals, markets, and schools.

Marcos called on every barangay to make changes as Filipinos do not deserve dirty, dingy, and dark communities.

Over the weekend, the Presidential Communications Office said that more than 2.6 million kilograms of trash were collected during the launch of the program. Around 580,000 people and 109,939 local officials participated in the clean-up drive.

Most of the participants were in Calabarzon with 117,161; followed by Cagayan with 103,249; and Central Luzon with 103,044. Meanwhile, the National Capital Region (NCR) had 39,109 participants. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
