Colorum vehicle fines in January hit P17.4M in gov't drive
An inter-agency campaign against unregistered or colorum vehicles collected P17.4 million in fines last January, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) reported Thursday.
The Special Action and Intelligence Committee for Transportation (SAICT), formerly the Inter Agency Council for Traffic (I-ACT), imposed the fines on 44 colorum vehicles from Jan. 6 to 31.
In a statement, the DOTr said violators were slapped with a P200,000-fine per van, and P1 million per bus.
The anti-colorum campaign, which is implemented by SAICT in collaboration with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Land Transportation Office, targets unauthorized public utility vehicles (PUVs) with the goal of ensuring the safety of motorists, commuters, pedestrians, and all road users.
The DOTr said it "anticipates that more illegal and unregistered vehicles will be exposed as [the] intensified campaign continues."
Last Tuesday, the Transportation department announced its coordination with the PCG to intensify anti-colorum operations and strengthen vehicle registration policies. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/ VDV, GMA Integrated News
