Owner of illegally parked car shouts at MMDA men, says they're doing right later
A man, who claimed to be a retired prosecutor, shouted at a road-clearing team of the Metro Manila Development Authority after his car which was parked on a roadside nearly got towed.
His temper flared after he was accosted for illegal parking along Regalado Avenue in Quezon City.
“Alam ko ang batas! I’m a retired prosecutor! Kare-retiro ko lang,” the furious motorist said.
(I know the law! I'm a retired prosecutor! I just retired.)
He said he left his vehicle by the side of the road in front of a church to hear mass with his family. He said he didn't know that parking was not allowed in the area.
The man lost his cool when he was allegedly told that his vehicle would be towed.
“Na-heart attack na ako kaya ‘wag ka ganyan! Umalis ka na rito! Sige tiketan na n'ya,” the motorist shouted as he confronted the Officer-in-Charge of the MMDA Special Operations Strike Force Gabriel Go.
(I already had a heart attack so don't be like that! Go away! Let him give me a ticket.)
“Calm down, calm down. I’m talking to you nicely,” Go replied.
After cooler heads prevailed, the man said the MMDA he had just taken his anti-hypertension medicine and it took time to take effect.
“Tama yung ginagawa nila. Ngayon ko lang nalaman na bawal,” he said after signing the citation.
(They're doing the right thing. It was just now that I learned that parking was not allowed.)
A violation ticket was issued but the vehicle wasn’t towed. In the end, the motorist acknowledged he had committed a mistake.
After Regalado Avenue, the clearing tea ms proceeded to the other target areas: Dahlia, Republic, and Don Antonio Avenues.
Friday’s operations resulted in 46 apprehensions and 15 impounded vehicles.
