First Lady: Filipinos have class, don't use hurtful words

Defamation and hurtful words have no place in the country under the Bagong Pilipinas, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos said on Wednesday.

In a speech at the launch of a medical laboratory services program in La Union, the First Lady said Filipinos have class regardless of their status in life.

“Hindi na po uso ang paninira, hindi na po uso ang pagbabatikos at mga salitang napakasakit. Hindi ganoon ang Pilipino, rich or poor, may class naman tayo ng kaunti,” the First Lady said.

The First Lady made the remarks more than a week after former President Rodrigo Duterte linked her, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr., and Speaker Martin Romualdez to the people's initiative campaign to amend the 1987 Constitution.

Duterte in a speech and in a press conference said Marcos was a drug addict.

Davao City Mayor Sebastian "Baste" Duterte also called on Marcos to resign.

Her address in La Union was the first time that the First Lady spoke in public after the former President and his son's speeches.

The rally in Davao City was held on the same day Marcos led the launch of the Bagong Pilipinas campaign at the Quirino Grandstand.

On Wednesday, the First Lady said, “Bagong Pilipinas is not a political game plan that caters to a privileged few.”

“It is a masterplan for genuine development for the benefit of all our people, so when you hear the words ‘Bagong Pilipinas,’ what this really means is that both the public and private sector will be joining forces to help our countrymen,” the First Lady said. —NB, GMA Integrated News
