Gabriela: 70 women activists killed since 2001

Militant women’s group Gabriela said Tuesday that 70 women activists have been killed since President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo rose to power in 2001. Militant groups claim that up to 690 activists have been killed in the same period. Gabriela secretary general Emmi de Jesus said that 35 of the 70 slain women activists were Gabriela members. Gabriela has one party-list Representative in Congress in Liza Maza. The militant women’s group blamed the government for the killings. “President Arroyo, and members of her national security, justice department, along with the State forces, should all be held responsible on these killings and wanton violations of our human rights," she said. -GMANews.TV
